Overview

John's Seafood is a staple in the heart of Dallas, located on Lake June Road, bringing the flavors of Southern seafood to Pleasant Grove. This family-owned spot offers a genuine neighborhood experience, where friendly service meets hearty portions of fish and shrimp prepared with care. The main draw here is the classic fried catfish fillets and fried shrimp, served with sides like crispy fries, hush puppies, and comfort staples such as mashed potatoes or shrimp rice. The food arrives fresh and hot, clearly made to order, reflecting a dedication to quality that has kept locals coming back for years.

The atmosphere at John's Seafood feels authentic and unpretentious—a true representation of the neighborhood's character. The dine-in space is casual and welcoming, ideal for families and takeout customers alike. Children enjoy small touches like the gumball machine, adding a bit of simple fun to the visit. The restaurant’s layout, with its separate ordering window and pick-up area, emphasizes efficiency while maintaining a warm, personal interaction between staff and patrons.

Regulars praise the bold, golden crust on the catfish, noting the use of cornmeal breading that offers a satisfying crunch without overwhelming the fish itself. Shrimp come butterfly-cut and devained, though some find the batter a bit heavy, masking the delicate seafood flavor beneath. Despite this, the shrimp remain a favored choice among many guests. Complements to the meals include refreshing fountain drinks and house favorites like sweet tea with lemon, which elevates the dining experience.

John's Seafood carves out a dependable niche as both a takeout and casual dining option prized for its generous portions, affordable pricing, and consistent quality. Whether you're seeking a quick lunch special or a comforting dinner of fried fillets and fried shrimp, this spot speaks directly to a community that values familiarity and straightforward, flavorful food. The welcoming staff and well-seasoned dishes make it a must-try for seafood lovers exploring Dallas’ local culinary scene.

This place needs to be advertised a little more. The Crisp on the fish and shrimp is phenomenal. The fries are fresh. 5 out of 5 for me.

I got 8 fish and 16 shrimp with mozzarella sticks. Everything was good. The fish was big very big pieces but a couple of the fish I got was way too thin. I dont like to just taste batter. The shrimp was big but didn't taste like shrimp. I would taste test the shrimp before ordering a big amount. I ate the shrimp after the fish so maybe it wasn't hot enough. Sweet tea has lemon and it was awesome. I'll be going back for sure just for the sweet tea. Everyone was nice greeted me and kids when we first walked in. My kids enjoyed the gum ball machine.

First time coming here, I came in blind , as far as not looking at reviews and stuff. At first it seemed sketchy but then I realized I was in pleasant grove. So I order the 2 fish fillets and six shrimp with fries and a sprite. For about 20 bucks. The whole alley of going around to the other side of the store to the next window to get your food is kinda weird and didn't give me a good vibe at all. Really gives it the meaning of "Hood store". I was asked to wait until my food came brought to me and I waited about 10-15 min. Now, the food was hot and fresh. The catfish fillets were longer and wider then my hands and thick of flesh. Golden crispy in a cornmeal breading, and crispy, golden, hot fries with hot sauce. I took a bite of one of the 6 shrimp and had to question myself what I was really eating.. as I investigated I realized the shrimp were covered in a thick batter, much more then the meat of the shrimp. So more batter less shrimp. . The shrimp themselves were butterflied and devain but the breading could have been less. The service was great. Very nice and friendly staff! I'll return to try new items soon.

John's Seafood has a big menu with a ton of options. I was attracted by the catfish reviews but feeling oysters. The fried rice offering was a surprise. I had six oysters and the shrimp fried rice. Oysters, nice size, fresh, fried rice was decent. Next time I will try the catfish.
